Tides were never turned, tactics was never amazing. Since the Strength attribute existed it has been the better of the two. If anyone didn't think so, they were just noobs and the reason it may seem like there was some shift is because more people learned about the game. But, any decent player was already using Strength since before release.

The only real change I see is that people use to go 9str, 16(ham/swo/axe - swap to minor helm if if you got dp), 9 tac and ran healing signet, and now they do not.

Strength as an attribute itself has always been better overall. Tanks have always sucked in PvE... I remember people wanted me to bring like obsidian flesh and all sorts of stances and crap to FoW.. HA! I brought frenzy instead and did just fine. Warriors are the most pumping class in the game, no point sitting around twiddling your thumbs standing still with a pure defense build letting the rest of your team attempt to kill stuff and then all wipe if anything should leave you. Kind of a weak team if it's completely reliant on 1 party member, if you ask me... Then again, with the harder areas like DoA and crap, I guess it's okay-ish, except permas are better.

Could also be the fact tactics got nerfed to hell? It's been nerfed quite a bit... Shouts and stances use to be amazing, heck.. You could even shout smite. Now days though, the tactics line just isn't all that great due to nerfs. Fear Me got nerfed, the defensive stances got nerfed, Shields Up got nerfed, pretty much just about every tactics stance/shout has been nerfed at some point it seems... Except maybe Bonetti's? But yeah...

This. I remember running Watch Yourself and Healing Signet in my build when only Prophecies was available. Hell, Paragons even used WY! for a stint.

Armor stacking nerfs and powercreep destroyed the tactics line.

Bad to begin with, unnecessary now to overpowered defense and offense.

I remember when strength users were considered noobs. Once Lions Comfort was released, EVERYONE went strength. Healing Signet used to be the only self heal that could be used, so logically, with the terrible skills in strength at the time, it was better to go Tactics. After Lions Comfort came out- everyone started to shift slowly to strength, and then it stopped using tactics and everyone just went full out strength.

Strength was laughed at for a while since compared to the other primary attributes, it was relatively weak.

What this thread drive home is - they better re-think warriors completely for GW2.

healing sig is the best pure selfheal in the warrior's skill pool, especially at low tactic specs.

the warrior concept is perfect in GW, and really does not need to be changed for GW2.

Not really. The only thing that needs reworking is the tactics line. Everything else is fine.

I'd agree with this, but if I were a developer I'd probably look at some of the weaker axe/sword attacks, but that's because I love my warrior so much .

I think my point was that if they want any kind of defensive, tanking ability in warriors without having it abused by other classes, they need to re-do it. Maybe link it to the primary attribute. For now, they've essentially just removed it completely.

The thing with Wars though is that they've become pure damage machines and so theres no room to bugger around with defensive crap; thats what Monks are for. I don't think many people would appreciate the ability for Wars to be able to block/have defensive stuff much now anyway; Wars are basically defined.

Truth.

Again, since day 1 of getting this game, I didn't like being a defensive Warrior, that's what high AL and a Shield are for, or KD, if going Hammer. Give me Strength, let me smash someone's face in, and let my Monk(s) handle any hate that comes my way, 'cuz I'm too busy bustin' chops to worry about much else.

i heard a rumor that a certain tactics skill is getting a major buff in the upcoming skill balance. I have no idea how credible it is but if true it might be worth spending some points in tactics. We'll see in two days.

I always used tactics and swordmanship in the old days, farming ettins outside bettletun^^ i never liked strength. but now i love it. tanking is bad in pve. and in pvp warriors must do damage, so strength all the way.

Though tactics died with the nerf of WY it was briefly brought back with the [Steady Stance] [Drunken Blow] [Desperation Blow] [insert randomness here] build. however, Anet did not like that tactics was being rezzed so they [Broad Head Arrow]'d it.

But come on people! Tactics is still good for one of the most important parts of the game...1v1!!!

I've never bothered to use tactics for anything but Riposte and Deadly Riposte.
I don't use Healsig because of the massive armour drop, I just end up losing more health,

tactics is like the entire set of skills by the ritualist: everything it has or is is done better by other classes.
